U.S. M&A Activity Sees Mixed Trends in February
In February 2025, the number of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) announcements in the U.S. dropped by 23%, totaling 894 deals compared to 1,159 in January. Despite this decline in the number of deals, the overall deal value increased to approximately $178 billion, up from $144 billion in the previous month. The tech sector maintained its strong foothold with 709 deals, surpassing last year's 639 deals during the same period. Noteworthy transactions included a $4.4 billion acquisition of SolarWinds (SWI) by Turn/River Capital and a $4.1 billion acquisition by Diamondback Energy of Permian Basin producer Double Eagle.
