EPA plans to revise coal-fired power plant wastewater rules
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has filed a court motion to postpone the compliance deadline for coal‑fired power plants under its zero‑discharge wastewater standards, seeking to extend the current Dec. 31, 2029 deadline. The agency also plans to revise limits on combustion residual leachate and other discharges, potentially easing regulatory burdens amid a broader Trump administration deregulatory push. Environmental groups and several utilities have sued the rule, arguing it imposes costly and unproven technologies.
