Nationwide protest action was held in five German cities
On March 15, 2025, 80,000 industrial workers in five German cities—Hanover, Leipzig, Frankfurt am Main, Cologne, and Stuttgart—participated in a nationwide protest organized by the IG Metall trade union. The protest was against government inaction regarding job cuts, low wages, high electricity prices, and the lack of infrastructure support and technological development. The German Federal Statistical Office reported a 0.2% decrease in GDP and a 4% decrease in the turnover of medium-sized and large industrial enterprises in the automotive, metal, and electrical industries in 2024, leading to job cuts and production facility relocations.
