    Surcharges add up for parcel shippers – and there may be more to come

    UPS is imposing a surge fee on US imports from China and 12 Australasian countries, with a charge of 50 cents per pound for parcels from China, Hong Kong, and Macau, and 25 cents per pound for others. The fee is based on billable weight and applies to all service types. UPS is also increasing fuel surcharges, with domestic ground service surcharge rising from 16% to 16.75% and air surcharges from 15.75% to 16.75% for domestic and international air exports and imports. FedEx has implemented an 'import demand surcharge' of 25 cents per pound on shipments from China, Hong Kong, and the Philippines.
