FedEx to lay off 611 Memphis workers as auto parts manufacturing client moves out of state
FedEx Supply Chain has announced the permanent layoff of 611 workers at two distribution centers in Memphis, Tennessee, with the layoffs set to occur by October 11. The decision follows Cummins' decision to transition part of its aftermarket parts distribution from Memphis to a new logistics partner in Indianapolis, citing a need to improve efficiency and better serve customers. FedEx will retain a portion of the business at the Memphis locations, and affected employees will be eligible for job placement, relocation aid, or severance at other FedEx facilities. This marks FedEx's second layoff in the year, after 217 employees were laid off in March at a Middle Tennessee facility. The layoffs are not linked to FedEx’s ongoing 'Network 2.0' network optimization plan.
