Volvo Trucks has delivered 10,000 gas-powered trucks globally since introducing the technology in 2018, with 2025 marking its strongest sales year for the segment. The UK is the truckmaker’s leading market, followed by Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands, Norway, and France, with India and Latin America identified as growth markets. The company’s gas engines are offered across its heavy‑duty FM, FH, and FH Aero ranges and can run on liquefied natural gas (LNG) or bio‑LNG derived from organic waste. The trucks can travel up to 1,000 km on a single tank, suited to long‑haul and regional distribution operations. In a statement, Jan Hjelmgren, Head of Product Management at Volvo Trucks, said: “Volvo’s gas engine technology is a leading solution in terms of power, torque, engine response, and fuel efficiency, and our customers also appreciate the strong performance, drivability, and overall comfort of our gas-powered trucks. We see substantial potential for gas-powered trucks as an important step on the journey toward zero-emission transport.”

The trucks use high pressure direct injection (HPDI) technology from supplier Cespira. When bio‑LNG is combined with hydrogenated vegetable oil (HVO) as ignition fuel, CO₂ emissions can be reduced by up to 100% on a well-to-wheel basis.
