    Germany to Unleash Billions in Defense and Infrastructure Spending

    Germany will unlock hundreds of billions of euros for defense and infrastructure investments, marking a significant shift in its fiscal policy. Chancellor-in-waiting Friedrich Merz announced plans to amend the constitution to exempt defense and security outlays from fiscal spending limits, alongside a €500 billion infrastructure fund for transportation, energy grids, and housing over 10 years. The move aims to counter Russian aggression and bolster European defense, with the EU proposing an additional €150 billion in loans and €650 billion in national defense spending. The package is expected to boost the European economy and address the economic stagnation in Germany.
