Federal food assistance cuts impact Montana Food Bank Network
The Montana Food Bank Network, which supplies food to more than 170 food banks and pantries statewide, is facing significant challenges due to federal budget cuts. The Commodity Credit Corporation (CCC) funds, which cover about 10 percent of the food supplied, have been canceled, leading to a loss of 300,000 pounds of food worth over $400,000. This reduction will affect all demographics in Montana, including reservations, rural, and urban communities. The network relies on funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to purchase nutritious food, and the cancellation of CCC funds is part of broader federal budget cuts that may continue.
