Constellation, the nation’s largest producer of emissions-free energy, announced Monday, Aug. 4, it is accepting applications for its 2025 E2 Energy to Educate grant program. The program provides funding for student projects focused on energy innovation. The application deadline is Wednesday, Oct. 1. Among Constellation’s nuclear operations is the Quad Cities Generating Station near Cordova, Illinois. According to a news release, educators and students in grades six through 12 can apply for grants of up to $25,000. Those enrolled at two- and four-year colleges are eligible for up to $50,000. \"Solving the energy challenges of tomorrow starts with developing the next generation of energy and STEM leaders,\" Kathleen Barrón, Constellation executive vice president and chief strategy and growth officer, said in the release. She added that the 16-year-old program has \"supported tens of thousands of students and teachers who bring real passion, fresh ideas and genuine curiosity to STEM learning.\" In 2024, the E2 program awarded $500,000 across 20 projects, reaching nearly 12,000 students nationwide. These projects spanned eight states. They included a hydrogen fuel cell training program, mobile STEM labs, wind and solar energy design-build competitions, and initiatives preparing youth for STEM careers. To date, the grant program has provided nearly $6.5 million for research and education projects. It was empowered more than 300,000 students to explore STEM fields. To be eligible for E2 funding, applications must align with the following energy innovation themes: Access in Energy: Projects should focus on empowering underserved groups in the energy sector and inspiring students from all socioeconomic backgrounds to pursue STEM and energy careers. This includes strategies for increasing access to well-paying jobs and delivering clean energy solutions to underserved communities, as well as addressing inclusion of economically disadvantaged communities. Sustainability Amidst Growing Energy Needs: Projects should showcase enhancements to existing products or new technologies for a cleaner energy future. They should focus on decarbonization and energy-efficient choices. This theme also encourages use of AI in pioneering new advancements and refining existing technologies for sustainability. Nuclear Technology & Clean Energy: This theme seeks innovative solutions using nuclear technology and other forms of emissions-free generation to address climate change. Projects should demonstrate positive impacts for society, economy, and environment, and show collaboration with various stakeholders to scale up solutions and pilot programs.
