Morocco Eyes Rafale F4 Jets as Air Force Modernization Accelerates

Morocco is considering the acquisition of six French Rafale F4 fighter jets as part of its air force modernization efforts, following participation in the 'Marathon 25' joint military exercises with France. The move comes amid regional security challenges and competition between France and the United States, with Morocco already operating 15 upgraded F-16C fighters and planning to acquire 24 additional F-16V Block 72 Vipers. Morocco is also pursuing a $17 billion deal for 32 F-35 Lightning II stealth jets from the United States, potentially making it the first African nation to operate fifth-generation stealth aircraft. Additionally, Morocco has finalized a $600 million deal with Brazil’s Embraer for KC-390 Millennium transport aircraft to replace its aging C-130H fleet. The potential Rafale order could be placed in 2026, with delivery timelines still pending.
