China has achieved a significant milestone in the automotive industry by surpassing Japan to become the world's largest exporter of cars in Q1 2022. Official figures reveal that China exported 1,07 million vehicles during this period, marking an impressive 58% increase compared to the first quarter of 2023. Meanwhile, Japan’s vehicle exports reached 954,185, showing modest 6% growth from the previous year. This remarkable surge in China’r car export is further fueled by the growing demand for electric vehicles and increased sales to Russia. Prominent exporters of NEVs, such as Tesla’s China arm, SAIC (owner of the MG brand), and BYD have played incredibly pivotal role in Chinese success. Toyota Motor Corp must step up its speed and efforts to meet customer expectations in Beijing, which will become an advanced market for electrical vehicles. Last year, Toyota sold just 24,466 battery EVAs worldwide, including those sold at the Shanghai motor show.
