British Airways workers will receive a pay increase and one-off payment of £1,000, but pilots and management are excluded from the deal, according to the Unite union. The deal eases the threat of disruption as demand for air travel soars. Inflation continues to be high, with the pace of general price rises in the UK having been persistently high. However, inflation is still running at 7.9%, well above the Bank of England's target of 2%. This comes as the aviation industry enters one of its busiest months for travel this year, when families booked to go away during the school summer holidays in London. Airlines are keen not to repeat the chaos seen last summer at airports as they grappled with an surge in demand following the pandemic.
