Breeze Airways is an American low-cost airline that was founded by David Neeleman, who previously co-founded Morris Air, WestJet, JetBlue, and Azul Linhas Aereas. The airline commenced operations on May 27, 2021, with its inaugural flight from Tampa International Airport to Charleston International Airport. Breeze Airways is known for offering point-to-point flights from smaller, secondary airports, bypassing larger airline hubs for shorter travel times.

I recently had the opportunity to visit with some of the incredible Breeze Airways™ maintenance technicians at our operational base at Tampa International Airport (TPA).

As airline passengers, the most common interaction we have with the maintenance team is when an aircraft requires work just prior to our departure time. This is a critical part of their role, of course, as it helps all of us get to our destinations safely and on time when something is needed in the moment. This said, most of the workload performed by the Tech Ops teams is done behind the scenes, including during the night when the aircraft don’t fly as often. Commercial aircraft are maintained per very detailed maintenance programs that are comprised of literally thousands of tasks. These tasks are then “packaged” in a way that allows them to be performed in groups, with the interval for each task determined by how frequently that work should be accomplished to keep the aircraft safe and reliable. In addition to the technicians, there are materials specialists, planners, engineers, training instructors, quality control inspectors, and so many more that come together to make such a seamless experience for our Guests.

This group is incredible and play such a critical role as we continue to build a new category of airline – the Nice Low Cost Carrier!
