Meet Dougie Portwood , Technical Training Director at GreenRoad With nearly 12 years of experience at GreenRoad, Dougie has seen the company evolve and has played a crucial role in various capacities. Here’s a glimpse into his journey and insights: 🔹 Can you tell us about your journey with GreenRoad? I joined GreenRoad in December 2012 as a Tier 1 support engineer. In 2014, I took on the role of Global Change Management Manager, expanding my responsibilities to include Account Management. From 2016 to 2022, I served as Pre-Sales Manager, supporting new sales and assisting Account Managers with upsell opportunities. And since 2022, I have been overseeing internal and external training requirements. 🔹 What achievements are you most proud of? Successfully onboarding Stagecoach and New Zealand customers stands out as a significant accomplishment for me. 🔹 What motivates you in your role? Being in a position to make a lasting difference in road safety is incredibly rewarding. 🔹 What challenges have you faced? Overcoming driver concerns about adopting a new driver behavior system was challenging. Drivers often push back against change, so I learned early in my career to lead by example. I believe in practicing what I preach; I would never ask someone to do something I wouldn’t do myself. This approach has helped me navigate some of my most difficult professional challenges. 🔹 What advice would you give to others facing change? Do not fear change—embrace it. 🔹 Who inspires you? I often reflect on the words of Confucius: “Tell me and I will forget, show me and I may remember; involve me and I will understand.” 🔹 What do you see as the future of technology in your field? The use of Machine Learning will elevate safety telematics to the next level and beyond. 🔹 Share something interesting about you outside of work? After absolutely hating the sport of windsurfing for many years, I embraced the challenge and became an RYA Level 4 sailor and an RYA Level 3 windsurfing instructor. It’s been fulfilling to help many new candidates achieve their RYA 1, 2, and 3 certifications.
