The Diagnostic division researches, develops, produces, and commercializes diagnostic products that span the healthcare continuumfrom prevention, screening, diagnosis, and prognosis to disease and treatment monitoringto serve professionals. The Bio Supplies division provides biological materials for life-science research, clinical trials, and for manufacturing pharmaceutical and diagnostic products. Its products and services are used by healthcare providers to diagnose and treat patients with hemophilia, immune deficiencies, infectious diseases, and other medical conditions. The company serves public and private customers; and wholesalers, distributors, group purchasing organizations, blood banks, hospitals and care institutions, and national health systems. Grifols, S.A. has a technology collaboration agreement with Mondragon. The company was founded in 1940 and is headquartered in Barcelona, Spain.

Did you know that it was Víctor Grífols i Lucas who developed a centrifuge to perform plasmapheresis next to the donor?  

This was in 1965, when Grifols succeeded, for the first time, in making it possible to perform the blood donation, separation and reinfusion of blood cells immediately after their extraction.  

Until then, technical limitations meant that the separation of blood components took place in a centrifuge containing multiple donations. With this development, every donor had their own centrifuge within the donation cabin, allowing plasmapheresis to be performed in situ.  

Continuous centrifuges in use today are based on these principles and are a testament to the power of innovation to overcome health risks.

The Grifols’ Women in Leadership Awards were created to honor Dr. Marilyn Rosa-Bray’s legacy and to continue her work on gender equity and the development of people.

Today Grifols announced it has appointed Nacho Abia as new CEO. He will join the company April 1 and report to Thomas Glanzmann, our Executive Chairman. 

Raimon Grifols and Victor Grifols Deu are stepping down from their executive positions as CCO and COO, respectively, and will remain as members of the Grifols Board of Directors as part of a long-planned strategy led by Raimon, Victor and the Board to separate ownership from management.
