Yesterday, we reported earnings results for Q4 2023. Highlights include Adjusted EBITDA of $148 million. Our Geismar 3 (G3) plant is in the start-up process, and we expect it to ramp up to full rates over February. G3 will have one of the lowest emission intensity profiles in the industry and will significantly enhance our cash flow capability at a range of methanol prices.

Last week, two of our team members spoke on separate panels at The Energy Chamber of Trinidad and Tobago Energy Conference 2024.

Paul Hexter, President of our Waterfront Shipping subsidiary, spoke about the role methanol can play in the energy transition of the maritime industry. Waterfront Shipping continues to play a leadership role in the maritime industry, pioneering the use of methanol as a marine fuel, including in the areas of transporting, storing, and bunkering safely.

Amrit Ramnanan, Maintenance Manager for our Trinidad plant site, spoke on a young leaders’ panel and highlighted Trinidad and Tobago’s ability to leverage methanol as a pathway to a low-carbon economy, especially given the country’s experience in the methanol industry for over 20 years. 

In Trinidad and Tobago, these discussions are important given the region’s burgeoning energy sector and its strategic geographic location for transshipment and logistics activities, as well as the strong support from its government to become a hub for bunkering methanol as a marine fuel.  

The conference is widely recognized and attended by over 1,100 delegates from the energy industry, including policymakers, service companies and academia. 

Methanol is essential to everyday life today, and a pathway to a low-carbon future tomorrow. As a key chemical building block or as a fuel, when made from renewable sources, methanol can help society achieve its decarbonization goals.

For example, in Trinidad and Tobago, we partnered with Caribbean Ideas Limited and the National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago to launch a sustainable education platform, Sustain-U. In Egypt, we signed a new agreement with the International Labour Organization (ILO) to invest USD $2 million in Damietta, Egypt, to support an additional 1,000 new jobs. In Chile, we made investments to improve infrastructure at three local schools for children with special needs.

For industry, our subsidiary, Waterfront Shipping, hosted its first expanded-scope Methanol Group safety and industry best practices event in 2023.
