The Triple-A Team (Advisory and Advocacy Alliance) will be made up of a council of community members–and reflects our commitment to transforming practices to achieve equity, educational excellence, and the social-emotional and physical well-being of every student. The Triple-A Team will: ⭐️ Serve as a resource to the Superintendent and his leadership team to provide input and feedback on behalf of various Wake County communities; ⭐️ Review data, annual goals and priorities, and plans, and provide input; and ⭐️ Serve as a liaison to the public by encouraging a collaborative relationship between school or district staff and the community. It's been an honor to recognize our district's veterans all week. We are incredibly fortunate to have so many veterans on our staff that now serve our students. Many serve in the capacity of JRTOC instructors, just like 1SG Pablo Colón at Millbrook Magnet High. 1SG Colón served in the US Army for 20 years before retiring. He says he knew early in his career that he wanted to work with students after he retired, and found the perfect home to do it here in Wake County. Thank you to 1SG Colón and all of our veterans for your service–and for your continued dedication to students. We are so appreciative of all that you do! ❤️

Throughout October, we celebrated National Principals Month by taking time to show gratitude for the dedication and passion our principals bring to their school leadership. From naming Shejuanna Jacobs of Leesville Road High our 2024-25 Principal of the Year, and Sebastian Shipp of Millbrook Magnet High our 2024-25 Assistant Principal of the Year at the beginning of the month, to reflecting back on celebrations and recognition for principals across our district throughout the month, we are profoundly grateful for our school leaders. Their hard work is part of what makes our district a great place to be, making a difference in the lives of our community members. To all of our principals, THANK YOU! ❤️

Last week nearly 200 leaders came together for the first sessions of our Equity Leadership Development pathways. The first cohort, made up of our Superintendent’s Leadership Team (SLT), senior directors, directors, Area Superintendent senior administrators, and a Pilot Cohort of principals, launched this series of professional learning that connects to our strategic plan and equity policy. Participants had the opportunity to take a self-assessment and self-identity inventory and then choose a learning pathway that was most applicable to their needs. The goal for the Equity Leadership Development is to ensure all Central Services and school-based leaders have skills needed to lead others in equity work. By supporting our leaders in this way, we intend to build equity leadership capacity to effectively support schools, staff, and, ultimately, students. We can’t wait to see all of the great things that come out of this new opportunity for our school leaders!

Join us in congratulating Colin Richardson, a teacher at Green Hope High School , for being named the 2024 North Carolina History Teacher of the Year by The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History ! 🌎 Established in 2004, this prestigious award recognizes exceptional elementary through high school teachers for their outstanding contributions to American history education. He'll join the esteemed group of 53 finalists at a special ceremony in New York City next month where the 2024 National History Teacher of the Year Award recipient will be named! 🥇 Richardson teaches AP US History and Honors Sociology at his alma mater Green Hope High. He has served on his School Improvement and Equity Teams and as faculty representative for PTSA. He is a regular presenter at the North Carolina Council for the Social Studies, most recently for his work creating and leading an Asian American Oral History Project. 🦅

We are excited to launch our Equity Leadership Development Pathways professional learning next week! 🤝💡 Joining us to kick-off this initiative are leaders on the Superintendent’s Leadership Team (Superintendent, Chief Officers, Area and Assistant Superintendents), Senior Directors, Directors, Area Senior Administrators and 20 Principals. The 180 participants chose one of three professional learning pathways for the year: Foundations, Reflection, or Intention. This is critical work for our district as we live out our Strategic Plan, Equity Framework and Equity Policy! #excellenceandequity

This week, we are celebrating National Arts in Education Week! National Arts in Education Week is a nationwide celebration of the transformative power of the arts in education. Last week, our Board of Education and Superintendent Taylor signed the WCPSS Arts in Education Proclamation, pledging to maintain and grow our arts education programs in the 2024-25 school year and beyond. To kick off our week-long celebration, the Green Level High Marching Band performed on the Halifax Lawn outside the NCDPI Education Building for our NC General Assembly along with our state superintendent.
