Today is National Coming Out Day 🏳️🌈 While I don't typically share about my personal life on LinkedIn, this feels important. I came out during my freshman year of college — a challenging but exciting time for most young adults. Navigating my first year away from my family, along with the intense new emotions of college and coming out, brought up a ton of feelings for me. Back then, the idea of telehealth or even a robust wellness center with many therapists at a school was not a thing. This is to say I do this work because I know what it was like to be just 18, sitting in a dorm room with anxiety and not knowing what to do. Luckily, I had some amazing RAs and friends who helped me navigate my first year as I came out to family and friends and found myself, but not everyone has that support system. Now, as I work at tbh , I can't help but think how amazing it would have been to have a service like this on my campus. Knowing our diverse set of providers firsthand, I know my 18-year-old self would have felt so much more at peace and joy if I could have met with an LGBTQIA+ therapist online from the comfort of my dorm room. While I can't change the past, I'm excited to work at TBH and ensure that all LGBTQIA+ youth and students feel supported and have an avenue to talk about whatever is on their minds. I do this because I know TBH is what I wish I had in college, and together, we can ensure every student has that support going forward. As one, we can make sure everyone can live their authentic life and feel supported.

The American Psychiatric Association reports that Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) are three times less likely to utilize mental health resources and services compared to their white American counterparts. In recognition of World Mental Health Day, we are thrilled to announce our partnership with Kevin Kreider from Netflix’s Bling Empire. Kevin will soon be embarking on a campus tour to challenge the stigma surrounding mental health, particularly focusing on the AAPI community. Kevin shared his thoughts on this collaboration: “I’m excited to partner with TBH to address the youth mental health crisis—particularly for AAPI communities. Having my own experiences with mental health, I look forward to sharing my story to help remove stigma during my campus tour. I believe it’s so important for the next generation to understand that their mental health matters. I believe in the work TBH is doing for this next generation, and together, we can make a meaningful impact. We were honored to participate in a panel at the EdTrust-West conference last week, where our CEO joined leaders in student mental health to discuss the current state of mental health and wellness on U.S. college campuses. Here are our key insights: 1⃣ Prevention is Key: The focus in mental health often leans toward recovery, but there needs to be a shift toward prevention and early intervention. 2⃣ Access Unlocks Usage: Mental health services should extend beyond counseling centers. Addressing the stigma associated with counseling centers and offering support in virtual formats and shared campus spaces can enhance usage. 3⃣ Amplify Student Voices: It's crucial to center students' voices and lived experiences.
