September is Self-Care Awareness Month and RRJ is supportive of maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Cpl. Reid, Our Peer Support Team Leader, offers the following suggestions to our staff: Self-Care can be challenging, particularly when facing increasing demands. These pressures can take a significant toll on both mental and physical well-being. It is crucial to recognize the importance of coping strategies, which can be categorized as either healthy or unhealthy. Effective self-care practices include expressing gratitude, journaling, meditating, and engaging in regular physical activity of at least 20 minutes. In contrast, unhealthy coping mechanisms may involve excessive television watching, mindless scrolling on phones, and negative interactions with loved ones. To support a healthy lifestyle, one practical approach is to plan your day the night before. Setting small, achievable goals for both work and personal life can help you maintain balance and prioritize your well-being!

Command staff from Spotsylvania Sheriff's Office, Fredericksburg Police Department and Rappahannock Regional Jail collaborated for many months with academic experts in the field of Community Leadership. The Trailblazing Leadership Course was designed to look at leadership with a different perspective. Selected agency members attended a pilot to hone the course to serve our communities. We appreciate all the agencies that attended the inaugural class. These trailblazers were open to focused group interactions, classroom engagement, small panel discussions, and new ideas. Some even took part National Hawaiian Shirt Day! A special thanks to the Rappahannock Regional Criminal Justice Academy for hosting. A very special thanks goes out to “Dr. Lou” and his team from UNCW.
