e-Tattoo, a device developed by an international team led by researchers from the Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV), detects skin infections using thermoelectric properties to monitor temperature variations. This innovation allows for continuous and accurate monitoring of skin temperature, which is crucial for diagnosing wounds and inflammatory processes. The device, based on flexible thermoelectric materials and a conductive polymer, can detect temperature changes as small as 0.4°C and respond within three seconds to changes. It can be worn for several days and is adaptable to various skin conditions, including sweaty environments. This breakthrough opens up possibilities for more personalized and accessible medicine, aiding in the prevention of infections and the proactive management of patient health.
