Designing AI Agents for Interactive Problem Solving

In recent months, Paolo and I have deep dived into AI language agents, building them from scratch and also using tools like LangChain, Synthflow AI (formerly Fine-Tuner)  and Cognosys 

Prototyping these agents is easy, but engineering a reliable system that can be improved while preserving the complexity of a thinking system requires a deeper dive.

Princeton's team have done a great job in their paper (COALA) offering a clean framework to design such agents, resonating strongly with my experiences. 

For example, the paper mentions the connection between retrieval and decision making, a key challenge I encountered while designing a CV review agent. When reviewing a CV, if the retrieval corresponds to: “evaluate if the CV is ATS friendly”, how do you make the agent know that it can ask for more knowledge to evaluate that, and how deep should it go?

As AI agents become more powerful, I expect that more use cases around Interactive Problem-Solving will emerge. Where individual or teams of humans can engage with AI agents or teams of agents capable of understanding complex scenarios, proposing solutions, and even simulating outcomes.

Naturally, this means that Careermocha agents will receive exciting upgrades shortly, to provide better assistance in your job search.
