Today, we’re announcing that Amazon will invest up to $4 billion in Anthropic. The agreement is part of a broader collaboration to develop reliable and high-performing foundation models.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) will become Anthropic’s primary cloud provider for mission critical workloads, providing our team with access to compute infrastructure in the form of AWS Trainium and Inferentia chips. We’ll also offer enhanced support of Amazon Bedrock with secure model customization and fine-tuning for businesses.

Amazon developers and engineers will be able to build on top of Anthropic's state-of-the-art models via Amazon Bedrock so they can incorporate generative AI capabilities into their work, enhance existing applications, and create net-new customer experiences across Amazon's businesses. 

Training state-of-the-art models requires extensive resources including compute power and research programs, and Amazon’s supply of compute infrastructure alongside other providers will ensure we’re equipped to continue advancing the frontier of AI safety and research.

As part of the investment, Amazon will take a minority stake in Anthropic. Our corporate governance remains unchanged and we’ll continue to be overseen by the Long Term Benefit Trust, in accordance with our Responsible Scaling Policy.

We look forward to working closely with Amazon to responsibly scale adoption of Claude and advance safe AI in the cloud.

With high-stakes elections taking place around the world in 2024, we’re shedding light on some of the work that our team has been doing to prevent Anthropic's AI systems being misused. Our global election work has three major components: 

- Developing and enforcing policies around election issues;
- Evaluating and testing how our models perform against election misuses;
- Ensuring that when people ask Claude for information about where or how to vote, we point them to up-to-date, accurate information. In the US, we are partnering with non-partisan organization Democracy Works, to redirect people to their TurboVote resource.
