🔔 Today Basecamp Research announced #BaseFold, a breakthrough in predicting the 3D structures of large, complex proteins. We show that we can better predict the way proteins behave — not with better algorithms, but with higher-quality data.

🌎  By leveraging our purpose-built, foundational dataset of global #biodiversity, we improve the accuracy of AlphaFold2 structures by up to 6X, and the accuracy of small molecule docking by up to 3X.

🚀 BaseFold marks another significant step forward in #AI-based #drugdevelopment, offering more reliable predictions for therapeutic targets and drug interactions.

Feeling super energized after returning from a week in London during which I had a chance to review Basecamp Research’s momentum in building Biodiversity Collaborations around the world. Co-Founders Oliver Vince and Glen Gowers invited me to join the team in April 2021 to help lead and guide the company in the development of a Biodiversity Collaboration program building on my Biodiversity Access and Benefit Sharing experience starting in 1995 and building a similar program as the one that I led at Diversa from 2000 to 2006. To date Basecamp Research has sampled more than 50% of the world’s biomes through more than 100 expeditions in 23 countries.  These super impressive accomplishments have helped us discover and design novel proteins to tackle some of the world’s toughest problems.

All of this has been accomplished with our amazing team working on developing this industry leading Biodiversity Collaborations program with thanks to Bupe Mwambingu,  Emma Bolton, Glen Gowers, Ineke Knot, Marlon Clark, Nadine Greenhalgh, Neem Jitendrakumar Patel, PhD, Oliver Vince, and Phoebe Oldach.
