The company has a collaboration agreement with MD Anderson Cancer Center to develop oncology drugs; research and license agreement with Dewpoint Therapeutics, Inc. for the development of new treatments for cardiovascular and gynecological diseases; collaboration agreement with Exscientia Ltd, Foundation Medicine Inc., and Evotec AG; research collaboration with Arvinas Inc.; strategic research partnership with University of Oxford to develop novel gynecological therapies; and Kyoto University to identify new drugs candidates for the treatment of pulmonary diseases. It distributes its products through wholesalers, pharmacies and pharmacy chains, supermarkets, online and other retailers, and hospitals, as well as directly to farmers. Bayer Aktiengesellschaft was founded in 1863 and is headquartered in Leverkusen, Germany.

Parkinson’s disease gradually takes away a person’s ability to do what they love. We’re taking a new approach to treatment with two potentially regenerative therapies, both in various stages of clinical trials. 
 
Rather than replacing dopamine lost to Parkinson’s disease like current drugs do, cell therapy seeks to physically replace the cells that produce it. Gene therapy, on the other hand, would target existing neurons, aiming to help the brain heal itself.

Hugo Hagen, Senior Bayer Representative and Country Division Head of Pharmaceutical at Bayer Middle East, along with Sheikha Dr. Noura Al Qassimi, President of the Emirates Society of Ophthalmology, came together to formalize a five-year partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), to establish RAFEK. 

RAFEK is the first of its kind national patient centric project, aiming to address gaps in the patient journey in the field of ophthalmology, to enhance treatment outcomes using data analytics, which perfectly resonate with Bayer's overarching mission of "Health for All, Hunger for None".

In the face of major global challenges such as global warming, the COVID-19 pandemic, or the looming food shortage, scientific innovation is absolutely indispensable. And to make the best use of the expertise, brilliant minds and ideas across organizations, research collaborations are essential to achieve the scientific discoveries the world so urgently needs.

However, some view scientific partnerships, particularly between the public and private sector, with a degree of skepticism. But without trust in the scientific process and the actors involved, the best innovations are developed on a shaky foundation. Often, this distrust is rooted in the fact that people do not know enough about what these collaborations look like. 

In order to strengthen trust in science, we at Bayer set up a public transparency register: The Bayer Science Collaboration Explorer lists information on our science collaborations with universities, public research institutions & individuals. Because we want to show everyone what we do and why we are doing it. After launching the Explorer in Germany and the US, this initiative for more #transparency will now also include Swiss-based collaborations.
