Yesterday HelloFresh co-hosted the second of three events in the German parliament to discuss the possible impact and methodology of a carbon label as part of the initiative Together for Carbon Labelling. The alliance was built by food companies in collaboration with scientists and is advocating for the introduction of a carbon label to offer consumers full #transparency on the carbon footprint of their food choices. To push the carbon label for Germany and Europe HelloFresh and other organizations and scientists are collaborating with the German policy maker Rita Hagl-Kehl MP. 

After discussing the scientific perspective in the first event in October, the second meeting explored the challenges and opportunities for businesses with presentations by #HelloFresh, Mo-Lilith Schünemann representing Oatly, Paul Hoffmann-Woldt who is leading the Together for Carbon Labelling initiative and Sabine Sabet representing the The Federation of German Food and Drink Industries (BVE). 

Dr. Daniel Chorzelski, VP Growth for HelloFresh DACH, talked about HelloFresh’s experience with implementing our climate cautious recipes label. The label enables customers to choose dishes with less carbon emissions and marks HelloFresh’s first step towards full menu transparency. HelloFresh has been actively contributing to the work on the carbon label methodology with the Together for Carbon Labelling initiative. 

Rita Hagl-Kehl MP underlined the importance to not only support consumers, but also make sure the label is feasible for smaller food companies. 

We are proud to be part of this important milestone towards full carbon transparency for consumers and look forward to driving this topic further together with our partners.

At #HelloFresh, we’re committed to minimizing #foodwaste within the supply chain and in consumer households. We’re exploring ways to educate and enable consumers to live more sustainably and waste less food at home, like with our HelloFresh Gardens initiative in the UK. 

We’ve partnered up with Social Farms & Gardens, a UK-wide charity that supplies community growing spaces for local residents and helps communities and families to learn more about living sustainably and growing their own. 

We’re very proud to be continuing our HelloFresh Gardens initiative in the UK for it's 2nd year! 

For this year's initiative we've teamed up with low waste chef Max La Manna and have created the Curr-EAT-ulum a food waste syllabus aimed at 5 - 10 year olds to educate British school children on the importance of food waste reduction with the help of fun activities and quizzes.  

A representative survey among 2,000 Britons by HelloFresh revealed that around three quarters of families feel guilty about the amount of food they waste, with more than half of Brits believing that children should be educated on reducing food waste, and a further 42% saying it should be added to the school curriculum. In light of these findings we wanted to create a toolkit that could help educate the youth of today.

🚀 Asian Network launch: Asian Market, a celebration of Asian culture and the inaugural event of the new Berlin-based ERG Asian Network, drew over 400 attendees.
🎉October celebrations: our US- and Berlin-based ERGs organized several activities and events to honor Global Diversity Month such as ERG Day in Berlin and a company-wide #DE&I Summit in the US.

Our ERGs help drive our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) all year round. With several events and initiatives planned throughout the year, ERGs enable the unique voices that make HelloFresh special thrive by empowering employee representation and participation.
