Semiconductor Engineering turns to David Stewart, CEO of CriticalBlue - Approov Mobile App Protection and Lanza techVentures portfolio company, for insights into “Why Banks Should Be More Worried About #Security” and #mobilephone #banking's vulnerabilities. David offered this advice: “More than 50% of #mobileapps contain valuable and easily stolen API keys and tokens. #hackers targeting the #mobilebanking  segment constantly come up with innovative ways to modify or manipulate those mobile apps. Most often, they completely bypass the mobile app and generate their own scripts using stolen API keys and tokens to impersonate the mobile apps, fooling the #banks into thinking the real user is online. The only solution is to authenticate that the real mobile app is present through a deep, real-time analysis, much like verifying the #dna of the mobile app to prevent money or sensitive #data from being stolen. Further, such authentication must run every few minutes and must generate #cryptographically secure and distinct access tokens at the end of each process.” https://lnkd.in/eWyKBpAe

Lucio Lanza, managing partner of Lanza techVentures, often describes the move from custom #ics to #semicustom ICs in the 1980s as a game-changer, according to ESD Alliance’s Bob Smith, in “The Indispensables: The Diverse #Electronic #System #Design #Ecosystem.” Despite intense criticism, the move to semi-custom design, a result of the efforts of early electronic design automation (#eda) pioneers Daisy, Mentor and Valid, broadened the range of design tool offerings and engineering expertise. Expanding the design space to include semi-custom ICs produced a new community of #engineers  who proved they didn’t need to be experts to do #chipdesign.
