Lithium Americas is implementing responsible mining practices to minimize environmental impacts. The Thacker Pass water conservation plan will reduce the need for freshwater resources and its zero liquid discharge (ZLD) design will ensure no industrial wastewater is discharged.
 
Thacker Pass lithium processing will recycle 85% of the total water used. Each drop of water entering the process will be reused and recycled about seven times. In this photo a LAC Lithium Technical Development Center Pilot Plant Technician, displays a filter cake which helps maximize water recycling. After leaching and neutralization, waste solids are filtered to recover water and generate material for dry stack storage.

Earlier this year, we welcomed students from Battle Mountain FFA and College of Science at the University of Nevada, Reno to our Lithium Technical Development Center in Reno. During the visit, they learned how Lithium Americas is producing battery-quality lithium carbonate from Thacker Pass ore and continually optimizing the process, as well as research and test by-products, such as clays and salts, for potential utility for the agriculture industry. FFA is an integral component of Nevada agricultural education that focuses on leadership development.
