Membrion manufactures ceramic desalination membranes that can recover up to 98% of water in the harshest conditions. Membrion’s flexible, electro-ceramic desalination membranes yield endless possibilities for water recovery, allowing manufacturers to recycle water at previously inaccessible pH ranges and with challenging trace chemicals. The membranes that Membrion creates are low fouling, require less cleaning, are oxidizer resistant, have ultra-low pH stability, and are economical.

Last month, the United Nations revealed a critical update on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: we are falling behind.​

UN officials report that "Up to 400 million tonnes of heavy metals, solvents, toxic sludge and other industrial wastes enter the world's waters annually."​

In response, a "System-wide Strategy for Water and Sanitation" was launched to intensify efforts toward sustainability. With accelerating population growth and economic development, industrial wastewater is on the rise globally and swift changes must be made. ​

"Scaling up circularity and sustainable consumption and production (SCP) has to be at the heart of these processes."​

The status quo is no longer acceptable. We MUST act now for a sustainable future.​

Membrion is a 2016 spin-out from the laboratories of the University of Washington (UW). Commercialization funding from the UW, the Murdock Charitable Trust, Amazon, the National Science Foundation (Award #1648517) and a consortium of California utilities (Rocket Fund) has helped to bridge the translation gap to a commercial product. In total, 11 different funding organizations have evaluated and financially supported Membrion's product development and commercialization plan. 

Most recently, that support has translated to private investment by angel investors as they scale their technology into commercial production.
