MyGate is an app created to manage security and community living in housing societies. It offers a comprehensive solution for gated communities, including visitor management, security, ERP, accounting management, and home services.

MyGate is building technology to simplify access everywhere - at the gate of housing societies, the reception area of corporates, even the entrance of malls. Our flagship product, launched in 2016, currently facilitates over 3.5 million visits every day at thousands of gated premises across the 100+ cities in which we operate, and continues to grow rapidly.

 

Our products also engage and simplify life for the residents, administration and other stakeholders of the gated premises we work with, through the apps and community management products residents use and a system for eCommerce partners to seamlessly manage deliveries.

She’s driven by an abundance of dedication, and fuelled by an undying curiosity: and that’s how she went from Tester to Software Developer, over the course of an Ideathon! The newest in our #WomenInSTEM series, is the story of how Harshitha DS  managed this great feat. 

Tell us the story of MyGate Ideathon 2023!

My team decided to build a carpooling app. I was tasked with building the frontend pages for the app. At that time I was in the Testing team, and had limited working knowledge in Development. With some help from the team, and the months of studying that I’d put in- it all worked out, and ultimately got me the promotion. 

So it wasn’t an overnight switch?

Absolutely not! I come from an electronics background, and I was initially on the Testing team. But I always knew I could do more and started working towards Development. I studied on the weekends, and in any free time I got- including breaks at work. My manager took an interest in the amount of learning I was doing, and it all led up to it. 

Have you always been a good student? 

If studying the night before the exam, and somehow managing to be among the top performers of the batch counts, yes I was! 

What needs to change, to make STEM more accessible to women? 

I think that as a field, the subject matter is impartial to all genders. However, the industry seems to have a “tech guy” prototype, which only more women in the field- especially in positions of power, can break. 

Give us a fun fact about yourself.

I have cooked dishes from 43 cuisines around the world, over the last 3 years! 

What are some of your other interests? 

I’ve dabbled in most things. I draw, cook, dance, sing- I would say that I’m a jack of all trades and the master of one- which is still better than being a master of none!

We’ve got a lot to celebrate as we complete 8 years of MyGate – our foray into the international market, strong growth in revenue and hitting zero cash burn.

So what better way to mark our 8th birthday than an R&R ceremony, recognising star performers, best mentors, culture champs and many more. 

Energetic performances amped up the celebratory mood, and of course, what’s celebration without some cake—symbolizing the sweet taste of unity and achievement. 

The cherry on top was indeed the heartfelt messages from our employees' families and MyGate users that warmed our hearts, reminding us that MyGate is more than a company; it's a community.

A coder, a poet, a voracious reader, and a self-described “geek”- Pragya Bansal is the next of MyGate’s fantastic #WomenInSTEM. Read on for a glimpse of her rich inner life, painted by succinct codes and the ability to build magical worlds! 

What would you say to 16-year-old Pragya? 
You know how every time you try to write a novel, it ends up being a poem? That’s because of your penchant for clean no-nonsense codes. Get coding already! 

Ever come close to giving up?
Yep! I started out during COVID. There was almost no face- to-face interaction, and I found that the learning curve was very steep.

How did you power through that learning curve? 
In my mind, I know that I can do anything I want to. I just have to freak out a little before I do. So once I’ve had my time to do that, it’s all smooth sailing for me! 

When do you know you’ve made it? 
When the work I do is so creatively fulfilling that positions and titles hold no significance at all. 

What’s an assumption people make about Women in Tech? 
In the Tech industry, when a man is quiet, he is considered contemplative and intelligent. When a woman is quiet, it’s because she’s got nothing to offer.

What is your proudest personal record so far? 
I read a total of 96 books in 2020! 

5 words to describe yourself? 
A woman of few words.
