Oxford PV is the pioneer and technology leader in the field of perovskite solar cells.

The company was established in 2010, as a spin-out from the University of Oxford. Today, we have the largest team globally, exclusively focused on developing and commercialising a perovskite based solar technology. We have a research and development site in Oxford, UK and an industrial pilot line near Berlin, Germany enabling the accelerated transfer of our technology into industrial scale silicon solar cell production.  In 2019, we announced plans to move into full commercial manufacturing.

Solar panels built with Oxford PV’s perovskite solar cell technology will generate more power, critical for delivering more affordable clean energy, accelerating the adoption rate of solar and addressing climate change.

Oxford PV was featured on Deutsche Welle! DW visited our production site in Brandenburg an der Havel, Germany to provide insights into the future of #photovoltaics. 
 
Oxford PV’s #perovskite-silicon tandem solar cells, produced in the heart of Europe, boast efficiency at least 20 percent higher than the currently dominant monocrystalline silicon modules. Europe, and Germany in particular, holds a lead in solar technologies based on perovskite materials. 

In order to maintain the edge in the development and commercialization of these next-generation technologies, the strengthening of Europe's technological lead must be specifically supported and can become a decisive advantage in a global market. Europe, spearheaded by Germany, is positioning itself to establish a value chain for highly efficient photovoltaics in the pursuit of strategic, technological, and energy policy sovereignty. 

Claudia Kemfert, an expert in the field, emphasizes the targeted promotion of high-efficiency photovoltaics and innovation as instrumental tools to enhance competitiveness in production capacities.

Our team (Head of Sustainability and Government Affairs Laura Miranda, CTO Chris Case, CFO Frank Nowroth, and CEO David Ward) were delighted to showcase our advanced solar facility in Brandenburg an der Havel, Germany, to local MEP Christian Ehler. With Dr. Ehler also being the Rapporteur for the #NZIA, we had an excellent and informative dialogue around the imperatives of innovation and sustainability in the solar industry.  This included a discussion about the required support the industry needs to create a stable and long-term competitive solar ecosystem in Europe. We are eager to play our part in contributing towards a more eco-friendly and sustainable future. A team of Dutch university students under the banner, Top Dutch Solar Racing, has installed perovskite silicon tandem cells in its entry in the 16th edition of Bridgestone World Solar Challenge. The upcoming race is a six day, 3000km expedition across the Australian continent, from Darwin to Adelaide. #renewableenergy #solarenergy #sustainability

Oxford PV had the honour of attending the high-level Solar Summit hosted by Saxony's Minister President Michael Kretschmer in Berlin. The event brought together political leaders from several German states and key stakeholders from the solar industry to discuss and endorse a position paper to strengthen the solar industry in Germany.
 
The Solar Summit was an important addition to a number of commendable initiatives aimed at creating the right conditions for the solar industry in Germany. But what made this summit stand out was its emphasis on the urgent need for demand-side incentives, such as the introduction of non-financial criteria in solar PV tenders, to reward the key differentiators of the European and German value chain, such as a lower carbon footprint and technological innovation, and to create a more level playing field between the European industry and producers from heavily subsidised markets such as China (see also the latest news article on our website).
 
Our Chief Technology Officer Chris Case and Chief Financial Officer Frank Nowroth joined other political and industry leaders for a very insightful parliamentary breakfast hosted by PVthin on the same topic. The vast majority of participants agreed that the current situation demands action and that non-financial criteria could play an important role in overcoming the current challenges.
