McVitie’s 'There is Only One' campaign makes a triumphant return to British TV screens today, and this time, we take immense pride in sharing that it has received industry recognition.

The TV ad, which stars broadcasting great, Sir Trevor McDonald, has been recognised by The Grocer as their Top Campaign in Sweet Biscuits in 2023.

Are you getting the optimum dunk for your biscuit? Here at McVitie’s we’re on a mission to save the nation from dunking disasters. Our newly-appointed Chief Dunking Officer, Dr Helen Pilcher, has carried out extensive research which showed that over six million biscuits are lost each week in the UK to over-dunking. Helen and her team have discovered the optimal drinks pairings for our biscuits and the best dunk durations, revealing that most biscuits should be ‘micro-dunked’ for less than a second. What a brilliant idea!

We're pleased to announce that our subsidiary company, Ülker Bisküvi, has clinched the top position globally in sustainability among 450 companies in our category. This prestigious recognition, announced recently, comes from the London Stock Exchange Group’s ESG Score, which objectively evaluates environmental, social and governance performance of all publicly listed companies. In addition, we are proud to announce that, in the same review, Ülker Bisküvi has secured the top position among the 108 companies listed on Borsa İstanbul - the Turkish stock exchange.

As part of the pladis family, Ülker is making excellent progress in sustainability and this achievement is testament to our collective commitment to making a positive impact on the world around us. The transparent assessment by the London Stock Exchange Group covered crucial themes such as emissions, environmental product innovation and human rights.

We're dreaming of a White (Chocolate Digestive) Christmas! 🎄🍪

Tonight’s the premiere of our ‘Inside McVitie’s at Christmas’ documentary on Channel 4 at 9pm. If you’ve ever wondered how our expert bakers come up with new flavours, how our teams put together your Victoria selection boxes every Christmas, or how our McVitie’s sites bake more than 92 MILLION biscuits and cakes a day, then this is the show for you.

It’s been a busy few months of filming behind-the-scenes, but we’re delighted with the end result and know you will be, too! Huge thanks to our partners, ITN, and to all our colleagues around the business who have made it happen, especially those at our sites who’ve shared a little bit about how we ‘bring happiness with every bite’ through the McVitie’s biscuits we bake.

The McVitie’s White Chocolate Digestive went down a treat in the UK this year and one of the key contributors to the viral innovation, pladis Lead Product Development Chef Robert Craggs, was interviewed by the Mail on Sunday this weekend.

Ahead of tonight’s ‘Inside McVitie’s at Christmas’ documentary, the article reveals some of the unique flavour combinations that were tested in the production, as well as detailing some of the intricacies behind creating our McVitie’s cake for King Charles III’s Coronation in May.

Our Jeddah factory recently hosted guests from the Turkish Consulate. Led by Turkish Ambassador Mehmet Metin Eker and Consul General Mustafa Unal, our visitors had a behind-the-scenes tour of our biscuit and chocolate production lines, which collectively produce more than 450m packets of biscuits a year, including notable Ülker favourites such as Halley, Biskrem and Tea Biscuits.
 
The visit also provided the opportunity for our team to present an insightful overview of operations, sharing details about the technical specifications of the site as well as the positive impact it has on the local community - including the pioneering work they are doing to increase female representation on production lines. And there was also a unique opportunity to showcase our cutting-edge new chocolate line, which is being used to produce luxury products for our Godiva Chocolatier brand.
 
Thanks to Serkan Taskin, Mustafa Çelik and Hasan YAZICI for seizing this occasion to spotlight pladis' capabilities and its significant contributions to the region.

Not content with just winning Gold at the Effie UK Awards, our Mini Cheddars team have gone one better and also won Gold at the Effie Awards Europe for their 'Welcome to Cheddar Town' campaign.

The Effie Awards are one of the most prestigious awards in the marketing and advertising industry spotlighting ideas that work and encouraging thoughtful dialogue about the drivers of marketing effectiveness. The campaign, which first launched in 2021, received the Gold Award in the Food and Beverage category and was commended for helping Mini Cheddars to beat the major players in the industry with some cheesy humour.

Aslı Özen Turhan, Chief Marketing Officer for pladis UK & Ireland, said: "The Mini Cheddars brand had experienced a dip in consumer engagement post-pandemic, becoming slightly forgotten. Through the introduction of a fresh and distinctive personality in our campaign, we successfully revitalised the brand, resulting in a remarkable doubling of Mini Cheddars' spontaneous brand awareness and an impressive 21% surge in sales. Achieving the Gold award in what is a fiercely competitive EU market is truly outstanding!"

According to research from Deloitte, it’s estimated that between 15% to 20% of the world’s population are neurodivergent . So, to mark International Day of People with Disabilities (IDPWD)s this year, we welcomed distinguished ‘Thinking Light Coach’ founder and co-lead of the Neurodiversity Network at GSK, Danielle Cudjoe-Michalski (ICF ACC, PMP), to explore the often-overlooked challenges of invisible disabilities. 
 
During the session, Danielle shared candid insights about her own neurodiversity journey, discussing the barriers affecting diagnosis and the impact this can have on an individual’s mental health. 
 
Danielle also spoke about the pressing need for greater neurodiversity awareness, highlighting the remarkable benefits neurodiverse colleagues bring to the table and the importance of fostering a neuro-inclusive workforce that empowers colleagues to bring their whole selves to work.
