Working in R&D, PowerLight is constantly looking for ways to improve our efficiency and lower our costs, all while staying agile within a project. The most recent addition of a CNC machine to our in-house shop has improved our turnaround time significantly on custom parts and helps keep costs down when working with specialty part manufacturers. Sunday, November 10th marks the 249th birthday of the United States Marine Corps and Monday, November 11th marks Veterans Day. These two important markers in our calendar are a time for reflection and giving thanks. As General Eric M. Smith, Commandant of the Marine Corps states in his USMC Birthday Message, "Our history bears witness to Marines of all stripes picking up their rifles and fighting for Corps and Country when the call came. From Wake Island to the Chosin Reservoir to Khe Sanh to Camp Bastion, every Marine fought. Our future battles will be no different. Our rear areas will be as vulnerable as our front lines and every Marine from our infantry battalions to our aviation squadrons to our headquarters and support elements will have to stand-to when called." Thank you to all who have served, and who will continue to defend our country in the future.

On Tuesday October 22nd, PowerLight Technologies' Richard Gustafson , Tom Nugent, Jr. , and Mike Hartnett supported our CENTCOM partner Doug Brown in presenting our proposal for laser power beaming to Group 2 UAS to the Operational Energy - Innovation's OEPF review board. We have already begun work on the project, PTROL-UAS ("Power TRansmitted Over Laser to Unmanned Aerial Systems"), and are excited to see the broadening support and enthusiasm for this capability.

Another big thank you to our amazing employees at PowerLight for pitching in to keep our office's neighborhood clean and tidy. We had great fall weather for our City of Kent, Washington Adopt-a-Street pickup.

As PowerLight and other industry leaders have developed and set up shop in South King County, leadership in our area understands that new challenges, including infrastructure, work force, and technology, present themselves regularly. Now is the time to convene and discuss how these challenges, and opportunities, can be addressed and leveraged to help the Kent Valley and surrounding areas thrive in our environment. Earlier this week, PowerLight COO, Bob Zak , met with City of Kent, Washington Mayor, Dana Ralph , and other leadership within the air and space manufacturing industry from the Kent Valley to discuss these hurdles and the best approach to addressing them early, and will continue the conversation for the foreseeable future. Mike Hartnett , PowerLight’s VP of Business Development, attended and gave a presentation last month at National Defense Industrial Association - (NDIA) ’s ETI conference last month where he spoke on the importance of power beaming in military operations providing autonomy and freedom at scale for power distribution throughout the battlefield, specifically when powering UAS platforms. As Mike said in his presentation, and attached summary, “Wireless power beaming is a way of delivering high levels of power, safely, over long distances, using a beam of light. Hundreds, even thousands of watts can be sent safely through the air when it’s physically impossible, too costly, or too dangerous to sustain UAS in any other way.” Thank you Mike for your advocacy and work with PowerLight and the power beaming industry.
