Global investment-grade credit continues to ""walk the walk"" despite a slight deterioration in Q4 as slower growth and higher interest rates bite. China's #securitization issuance saw another year of declining volume amid a weak #property market and slow auto sales. New securitization issuance decreased by 7% to Chinese renminbi (RMB) 1.9 trillion (US$264 billion) in 2023, and it will likely remain flat in 2024.

S&P Global Ratings believes #delinquency trends are gradually stabilizing. The delinquency ratios in residential mortgage-backed securities (RMBS) have dropped following a one-off spike, and auto loan asset-backed securities (ABS) have also seen a decline in severe delinquency ratios. An evolving reporting environment for #GreenhouseGas emissions should spur the so-far limited adoption of a key standard for measuring #emissions in insurers' underwriting portfolios.

The first version of an insurance-associated emissions standard was launched by the Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials (PCAF), a standards-setter for measuring financial institutions' emissions, in November 2022. China added a record 301 GW of #renewable power generation capacity including solar, wind and hydro in 2023, accounting for around 59% of the world’s total renewable capacity additions last year. It added 216 GW of solar PV capacity alone in 2023 that was equal to 14% of the world’s total installed #solar PV capacity, more than what many countries have ever installed in total. However, teething troubles mean that power grids are still struggling to absorb the huge capacity expansions and it will be a while before the new plants meet viable levels of actual #PowerGeneration.

Banks reported modest #deposit growth in the fourth quarter of 2023 as they encountered easing #funding price pressures and began to set expectations for deposit cost reductions when the Federal Reserve cuts #InterestRates.

The median US public bank posted sequential deposit growth of 0.3%, according to earnings reports through Jan. 26 compiled by S&P Global Market Intelligence. The 20 largest by assets did a bit better with a median 0.4%, and the vast majority of those with at least $50 billion of assets added to securities holdings amid soft loan growth.
