When I worked on my first startup in late 2022, uncertainty loomed large—I had no clue where to start. Yet, driven by determination, I embraced the journey with these thoughts:
💭 Learning from smarter people will fuel my growth tremendously.
💭 The novelty of building a startup promised invaluable experiences.
💭 Impacting the world and creating lasting memories became my motto.

Fast forward a year filled with change—I recently presented Rayo at Collision Conf, North America's premier tech conference! 🌟 As the only startup from Vietnam presenting at the Future of Work showcase, I'm grateful for this opportunity. Meeting visionary founders and potential partners, sharing ideas, forging connections, and learning from tech's brightest has been exhilarating. Seeing my idols on stage such as Geoffrey Hinton, Jeff Shiner, and Vinod Khosla sparked the urge to steal them off the stage for souvenir photos and signatures 😆

Moments Matter - The latest campaign from the Department for Education (DfE) on school attendance just illustrates that they simply have no idea. Worse than that, it's insulting. Insulting to every SEND Parent Carer and their children. To those families that struggle day in, day out.

We have two children, one son formally diagnosed as autistic (PDA) with anxiety, OCD, insomnia, hypochondria and long-covid. Our other son has undiagnosed ADHD and certainly has a PDA profile. He's recently been talking about perhaps being autistic.

Both struggled at school, often for different reasons. One is superficially sociable but often in trouble, the other much more reserved. They were both masking. Masking to try and fit in an environment that did not suit them, did not meet their needs and ultimately failed them.

I'm conscious that when I speak about mental health, I am quite open. This is because I have found talking about it protects me. Often, the topics can be sensitive to people, and I mean no offence. I am not seeking a shock factor reaction when I choose my words.

In the past, I have experienced suicidal ideation, self-harm and intrusive thoughts, and I live with anxiety and depression every day. I know to take it seriously when anyone tells you that they are feeling like hurting themselves or taking their own life.

So when you hear those words from your children, your heart breaks, you want to scream in terror, your mind can't fathom this pain. Both of our boys have expressed feelings like these, and like me, live with challenges every day. But we look out for each other.

Why do I mention this? Why am I telling you about my and my kid's struggles with mental health? How is this connected to this campaign? It's because we are not unique. There are thousands of families with similar situations who struggle every day with 'hidden disabilities'.

It's these realities that the DfE insult with the 'Moments Matter' campaign, showing their wilful ignorance of the life of a SEND family. Yes, there is an increase in children with SEND, but more importantly, there is an increase in children not getting their SEND needs met!

Children are struggling because of failures in mental health services, diagnostic pathways and national needs emerging (post-COVID) not being addressed. It's time the DfE took the time to understand the real issues instead of plucking ideas from the pick-and-mix policy selection!

Forbes shares Africa is about to have its ADA moment. The new legislation will assist in creating greater equity for the 80 million people living in Africa who have a disability.  This will also help eliminate long held cultural beliefs about people with disabilities.

The project is also recruiting adults with Parkinson’s disease, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis."

It's wonderful seeing this really start to make progress. Now we need to start found though in other languages...
