Our Board of Governors Delegation in Israel spent a meaningful day immersed in learning, connection, and community. They joined Year-in-Israel students for a morning service, shared insights with Jerusalem campus faculty, and enjoyed lunch with students. The day included a meeting with President Herzog, followed by a special evening celebrating with our Israeli ordinees, leaders of the Israel Movement for Reform and Progressive Judaism, and distinguished guests. Naomi Grossman's "The Wedding" (2023), a delicate wire sculpture of two female forms, embedded with loving words as their skin, conveys strength and fragility, in a joyful celebration of the union of marriage. HUC-JIR's Board of Governors Delegation to Israel kicked off their visit with a welcome dinner at the National Library of Israel , joined by Library leadership as well as leadership from HUC-JIR. We were honored to have Sallai Meridor, Board Chair of the National Library of Israel, and Oren Weinberg, CEO, in attendance. Together, we celebrated our shared commitment to education, culture, and community. The delegation looks forward to attending the Israel Rabbinic Ordination and Academic Graduation later this week, supporting our newest leaders in Jewish life.

In his recent article for the Times of Israel HUC-JIR Faculty Emeritus Steven Windmueller, Ph.D. examines the evolving dynamics of the Jewish vote, highlighting the growing diversity of America and shifting political trends among Jewish voters. He reflects on the increased support for Donald Trump in 2024, noting the regional divides and generational rifts within the Jewish community, particularly among young liberal Jews disillusioned with Israel's policies. We were honored to open “Sacred Land” at HUC-JIR’s Skirball Museum, showcasing the profound work of photographer Ralph Gibson and producer Martin Cohen. This unique exhibit captures the ancient and contemporary soul of Israel, expressing shared humanity and a vision for peace. The opening featured greetings from Jean Bloch Rosensaft, Director of the Heller Museum, Joshua Holo, Ph.D., HUC-JIR Vice President of Academic Resources and Associate Professor of Jewish History, and Tsach Saar, Deputy Consul General of Israel in New York, who came specially to Cincinnati for the event. We were also thrilled to welcome alumni who came out to view the powerful images of hope and connection that Gibson’s work offers at a time of hardship.
