At the end of last month, the world was profoundly shocked by the devastating floods in Spain, particularly in the Comunitat Valenciana. Understanding such phenomena is crucial for mitigating risks and minimizing damage. Using Earth Data Hub, users can easily access ERA5-Land reanalysis data to examine the events from October 29 and 30, 2024. The dataset is structured on a 0.1° x 0.1° longitude-latitude grid, corresponding to a native resolution of approximately 9 km, only on land (no data over the sea). However, it is important to note that due to the grid's design, some local details may be averaged out. 👉 https://lnkd.in/dJjzCSS3 While many platforms provide access to climate data in raw or semi-processed formats, such as GRIB and NetCDF, by leveraging cutting-edge technologies and formats like STAC, xarray, and zarr, the Earth Data Hub (EDH) offers one of the fastest and most efficient ways to access and analyze Earth data. Monitoring our planet has never been more crucial. Yet, accessing Earth data often remains a challenging task. As an example, we computed the cumulative daily precipitation for Storm Daniel in 2023, the most extreme rainfall event in Greece’s recorded history.
