Fare-charging robotaxis in Guangzhou: we’re delighted to share that we’ve recently received a permit to charge fares for #robotaxi service for our Toyota Sienna Autono-MaaS (S-AM) vehicles in Guangzhou’s Nansha District. This vehicle platform features seven seats and Pony.ai’s sixth generation autonomous driving system (ADS). 

Residents will be able to hail the Toyota S-AM robotaxi for paid rides anytime between 8:00am and 10:30pm using Pony.ai’s PonyPilot+ APP as well as on Pony.ai ride-hailing partner, OnTime’s APP.

This news comes on the heels of other recent big Pony.ai news in Guangzhou: Pony.ai recently received a permit to charge fares for its fully driverless, public-facing fifth generation Lexus RX robotaxi fleet in Nansha District, Guangzhou. In addition to Guangzhou, Pony.ai also has a permit to charge fares for its fully driverless robotaxi services in Yizhuang District, Beijing. Pony.ai will continue to expand its robotaxi services globally in the coming years.

Founded in Fremont, CA, in 2016, Pony.ai recently celebrated its seventh anniversary (December 5th). On its anniversary and as part of the company’s ongoing ESG initiatives, staff from Pony.ai’s Fremont office delivered and donated 150 stuffed bears to the Friends of Children with Special Needs (FCSN) in Fremont, an organization that “provides information and assistance to children with special needs, adults with special needs, and their communities.”

Prior to the delivery, staff from Pony.ai’s Fremont office put together and packaged the 150 bears, all equipped with t-shirts featuring Pony’s brand mascot, POPO. 

Pony.ai staff were received with a heartwarming reception upon arrival, at which both children and adults warmly greeted the team.

Meet Cameron Gieda. Cameron is the Director of Business Development at Pony.ai’s US office in Fremont, California, where he leads Pony.ai’s BD initiatives. Cameron attended the University of Southern California (USC), where he was a star on the swim team. Cameron is a lifetime “Proud Trojan.” 

At Pony.ai, Cameron has been driving tremendous results for Pony.ai as the company grows its Personally Owned Vehicles (POV) Business Unit in the US and global expansion of its world-class autonomous driving and ADAS technology. Pony.ai’s OEM-focused POV Business Unit was founded in 2021 and is focused on licensing a subset of Pony.ai’s L4 autonomous technology prowess to consumer-owned vehicles in the form of “Level 2+” (ADAS) in the US and globally.

We’re delighted to announce the debut of the Pony.ai and Toyota L4 robotaxi concept car, equipped with Pony.ai’s new seventh generation L4 autonomous driving software and hardware system. With its recent debut at the sixth CIIE event in Shanghai, the bZ4X-based concept car is a fully electric vehicle platform and is the first collaboration update following Pony.ai’s joint venture announcement in August 2023 with Toyota and GAC Toyota. 

This L4 concept car has a perfect, aesthetically pleasing and seamless integration of sensors, software and vehicle platform, designed entirely for an autonomous driving future.
