Shake Shack Inc. owns, operates, and licenses Shake Shack restaurants (Shacks) in the United States and internationally. Its Shacks offers hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken, crinkle cut fries, shakes, frozen custard, beer, wine, and other products. As of December 29, 2021, it operated 369 Shacks, including 218 domestic company-operated Shacks, 25 domestic licensed Shacks, and 126 international licensed Shacks. Shake Shack Inc. was founded in 2001 and is headquartered in New York, New York.

Shake Shack sprouted from a hot dog cart in Madison Square Park (NYC) to support the Madison Square Park Conservancy’s first art installation. The cart was quite the success, with Shack fans lined up daily for three summers.

In 2004, a permanent kiosk opened in the park: Shake Shack was born. This modern day “roadside” burger stand serves up the most delicious burgers, hot dogs, frozen custard, shakes, beer, wine and more. An instant neighborhood fixture, we welcomed people from all over the city, country and world who gathered together to enjoy fresh, simple, high-quality versions of the classics. The rest, as they say, is burger history.

Last week the Shake Shack Home Office celebrated its annual “Shacksgiving”, a decade-long tradition where team members get together to unwind + feast potluck-style! 

Our Head Chef John Karangis and the culinary team provided the turkey and gravy, while team members signed up to bring their family favorites, and various cultural cuisines. Plenty of fun was had with games and prizes, and our Executive Team provided warm Thanksgiving remarks.

 We're grateful to have these moments of connection with the #ShackFam.

We just opened our 500th Shack worldwide!

Since our first location in Madison Square Park, our vision has been to serve delicious, high-quality food with a side of community and heart. 

We’ve come a long way, but our purpose to Stand For Something Good in all we do remains unchanged. As of today, we fulfill that purpose in 18 countries, 33 states, and hundreds of cities around the world.

Happy Hispanic Heritage month from Shake Shack! We’re celebrating ALIADOS, our Hispanic Employee Resource Group that aims to provide Hispanic mentorship and community within the Shack Fam.

ALIADOS celebrated this month by hosting Home Office events, including Hispanic Trivia and a fireside chat with our suppliers, Vienna Beef and NotCo. They’re also raising donations for Hispanic youth mentorship with HISPA by hosting donation days at Shacks across the country.

Here at Shake Shack, we’re always seeking ways to minimize our environmental impact without sacrificing quality or taste. We recently launched a pilot with Zero Acre Farms' cooking oil—an alternative oil made from sugarcane plants—at two of our NYC Shake Shack locations.
