VLB Brewing Seminar in Vietnam Last week, from 14 to 17 October, our colleague Philipp Zeuschner gave a seminar on hot topics for the Vietnamese brewing industry in Hanoi. More than 50 participants from brewing companies from all over the country joined the four theme days ranging from sustainability over hop flavors to the production of alcohol-free beer. The seminar was held in close cooperation with the East Asia University of Technology (EAUT) and will be conducted on an annual basis with changing topics to provide high class knowledge updates for the Vietnamese brewing industry. We send many thanks to the team of EAUT and Polyco for the great hospitality and organization of this outstanding event as well as to the many participants of seminar! VLB-Braumeisterkurs 2023/2024 abgeschlossen Mit einer Betriebsbesichtigung in der Berliner-Kindl-Schultheiss-Brauerei und einem „Meisterumtrunk“ ging der VLB-Braumeisterkurs 2023/2024 Anfang Oktober 2024 zu Ende. Jan Biering, Leiter des VLB-Forschungsinstituts für Bier- und Getränkeproduktion (FIBGP), würdigte das Engagement aller Beteiligten und überreichte die Zertifikate. Die Teilnehmer dieser einjährigen Weiterbildung zum/zur Meister/in im Brauer und Mälzer-Handwerk haben an der Handwerkskammer Berlin (HWK) die Prüfung für Teil 1 (fachpraktische Kenntnisse) und Teil 2 (fachtheoretische Kenntnisse) absolviert. Allerdings gilt die Meisterprüfung erst als dann erfolgreich abgeschlossen, wenn auch Teil 3 (Betriebswirtschaft) und Teil 4 (Arbeitspädagogik) nachgewiesen wird. VLB-Oktobertagung mit hervorragender Resonanz Die 108. VLB-Oktobertagung zog am 7. und 8. Oktober 2024 mehr als 300 Fachbesucher nach Berlin. Geboten wurde ein dicht gepacktes zweitägiges Fachprogramm mit sechs Vortragsblöcken zu aktuellen Themen der Brauwirtschaft. Außerdem fanden die Sitzungen des Technisch-Wissenschaftlichen Ausschusses (TWA) und des Betriebswirtschaftlichen Ausschusses (BWA) sowie die Mitgliederversammlung der VLB Berlin e.V. statt. Die VLB-Oktobertagung ist seit mehr als 100 Jahren ein Fixpunkt in den Terminkalendern vieler Brauer. In diesem Jahr fand die Veranstaltung wieder direkt an der VLB statt. Als renommierte Fachtagung richtet sie sich an technische Führungskräfte aus der Brau-, Malz- und Getränkeindustrie einschließlich deren Partner aus der Zulieferindustrie. Neben den beiden Brautechnischen Sessions (Schwerpunkte Alkoholfreie Biere / Optimierungen im Brauprozess), dem 53. Braugersten-Seminar und dem 6. VLB-Forschungskolloquium, rundeten das VLB-Wassersymposium und das Supply-Chain-Management-Forum das fachliche Programm ab. Weitere Punkte auf der Agenda waren die sehr gut besuchten Sitzungen des Technisch-Wissenschaftlichen Ausschusses (TWA) und des Betriebswirtschaftlichen Ausschusses (BWA) sowie die ordentliche Mitgliederversammlung der VLB Berlin e.V. Dort präsentierten die Geschäftsführung und der Verwaltungsrat der VLB einen positiven Jahresabschluss für 2023 und einen vorsichtig optimistischen Ausblick auf das laufende Geschäftsjahr. Wie gewohnt wurde die Oktobertagung von einer Fachausstellung begleitet. Zwei Abendveranstaltungen und ein Abtrunk boten zusätzlich reichlich Gelegenheit für intensives Networking. Die VLB dankt insbesondere der Radeberger Gruppe KG /Berliner-Kindl-Schultheiss-Brauerei, dem Gerolsteiner Brunnen und der Bitburger Braugruppe GmbH für die Unterstützung bei der Getränkeversorgung der mehr als 300 Gäste. Die 109. Oktobertagung der VLB ist für Anfang Oktober 2025 in Berlin geplant. #vlbberlin #vlb

Successful Ibero-American VLB Symposium 2024 in Mexico The 14th Ibero-American Symposium of the VLB took place in Mexico City from September 2 to 4, 2024. With 230 participants from 22 nations, this event once again proved its status as one of the most important communication and knowledge platforms for technical managers in the brewing industry in Latin America. Since 2008, the Ibero-American Symposium of VLB Berlin has firmly established itself in the Latin American language region as a top-class specialist event for technical managers from the brewing and beverage industry. This year, the renowned technology forum took place in Mexico for the third time (after 2011 and 2019). With a population of around 128 million and an annual beer production of an impressive 142 million hectoliters, Mexico is the fourth largest beer nation in the world after Brazil and the world's leading beer exporter. The biggest players in the local brewing sector are Grupo Modelo (AB InBev), Heineken Mexico and Constellation Brands. However, a lively craft beer scene has also established itself. The conference began with a visit to the Heineken brewery in Toluca, some 40 km west of Mexico City. The technical presentations began on the second day. Roberto Biurrun , coordinator for Latin America and Spain at the VLB, opened the event and welcomed the participants. This was followed by a densely packed, technically oriented programme of presentations covering current aspects and innovations in the areas of brewing raw materials, brewhouse technology, fermentation & yeast management, sustainability and the digitalization of brewing processes. The lectures were presented by experts from the VLB, invited speakers from breweries and competent industry representatives. As usual, the symposium was held in English and Spanish with simultaneous translation. The presentations were attended by an interested audience of experts who were keen to engage in discussion. A dinner on the evening of the second day, sponsored by Ziemann Holvrieka , Constellation Brands and ROVI INGENIERÍA , rounded off the event. The next (15th) Ibero-American Symposium of the VLB will take place from November 10 to 12, 2025 in Paraná, Brazil, with the support of Cooperativa Agrária Agroindustrial .
