Canada is in compensation talks with two men imprisoned in China in 2018, with the federal government offering around C$3 million to each man. The lawyer for one of the men seeks C$10.5 million, alleging gross negligence on Ottawa's handling of security reporting operations in China. The two Canadian men were taken into custody in China shortly after Canadian police detained Meng Wanzhou, the chief financial officer of Huawei Technologies Co Ltd. The men were released in 2021, following the dropping of a U.S. extradition request for Meng.
