The world is on track to warm by nearly 3 degrees Celsius this century, according to a UN analysis. The planet currently sits at around 1.3C-1.4C, and temporarily crossed the 1.5C milestone in June. The UN report states that the world only has a 14% chance of keeping global warming below 1.5C, the threshold for several climate tipping points. The global average temperature for November 17th was 2.06 degrees Celsius higher than the pre-industrial average, likely for the first time on Friday. The European Space Agency (ESA) warns about the critical situation at the poles due to significant melting, impacting sea level rise.
