The original script of Final Destination had a darker twist involving characters being coerced by Death to commit suicide based on their survivor's guilt or secrets. Jeffrey Reddick, the franchise creator, drew inspiration from a true story about premonitions. James Wong and Glen Morgan later reimagined the script with a Rube Goldberg concept.
