Malaysian authorities have apprehended 31 individuals, including 21 foreigners, for suspected illegal rare earth mining in the state of Perak. The arrests followed raids on Dec. 8, with charges against 16 Chinese nationals, four Myanmar citizens, and a Vietnamese woman for illegal mining of non-radioactive rare earth elements. Malaysia is considering a ban on rare earth raw material exports to mitigate exploitation and resource depletion.
