A quiet plane ride? ✈️ Start-up Whisper Aero used ORNL's Summit #supercomputer test concepts for an ultra quiet electric airplane.

Oak Ridge National Laboratory announced its work with Whisper Aero to bring to market a nine-passenger electric airplane called the "Whisper Jet."

The start-up is using the laboratory's Summit supercomputer to expand the scope of design and analysis activities regarding  aircraft control and aeropropulsive integration.

At this year’s TN Drone Symposium, Laura Morejón Ramírez highlighted Whisper’s role in providing substantially quieter and more efficient propulsion for various platforms, namely regional aircraft.

The electrification of air travel and drones is instrumental in hitting net zero GHG emissions goals by 2050. It’s energizing to see our state’s enthusiasm for innovative hardware and electrified aircraft shaping a cleaner future.

ORNL's computing resources have had an outsized impact on the turnaround time of our design and analysis capabilities. By leveraging the transition to high performance computing with large gpu-based clusters we are hoping the aviation sector will also see sustainable transformational technological innovations just as we are seeing in AI and machine learning.

Crossville-based aerospace startup Whisper Aero is planning a revolution in aviation technology, refining its own vision for a nine-passenger electric airplane called the Whisper Jet. 

Simulations performed on the Summit #supercomputer at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)'s Oak Ridge National Laboratory are enabling the firm to dramatically accelerate the design of an electric ducted fan propulsor that is substantially quieter and cleaner.

Today marks two incredible years since I joined Whisper Aero, and the experience has exceeded all of my expectations. Working in a product team for a company that spans so many industries makes my day-to-day as dynamic as I always hoped it could be. I keep being amazed by all the aspects of life that our tech is capable of revolutionizing, and I am humbled to be part of a team that's building the future we want to live in. 

From representing the company at numerous trade shows, capability demonstrations, conferences and career fairs, to launching the ReConnecTN coalition to bring #RAM to Tennessee, to coordinating the grand opening of our Flight Test Center, Year 2 has been one of challenge, growth, and #opportunity for me, and I can't wait for more! ✈
