BRIDGING RESEARCH AND INDUSTRY! This week, our Chief Scientist Pierre Pinson gave a talk to the whole team at Halfspace - an AI company , based on his research at Imperial College London , but also based on his 20+-year experience working with forecasting and decision-making with various stakeholders within academia, industry and government. With the rush towards using more data, doing more analytics and pushing for more AI, we now have the possibility to produce forecasts for nearly everything. Forecasts are always wrong (common say) – so, how to make optimal decisions based on these forecasts if we cannot trust them? It is a combination of understanding the decision-maker’s problem, generating the right forecasts, and accepting to make decisions under uncertainty. Our Founding Partner and CEO, Claus Bek Nielsen , added to Pierre's talk: "Drawing from my own experience in professional gaming, we always aim to not only calculate the most certain outcome, but to assess the risk of all individual outcomes, and how this affects the expected reward. THE HALFSPACE MENTORSHIP PROGRAM II LAUNCHED! Last year, we launched our mentorship program, which received an a lot of interest from students. This year, we were thrilled to see even more applications, and yesterday afternoon we welcomed the new group of mentees — 14 ambitious students from various studies at DTU - Technical University of Denmark , Københavns Universitet - University of Copenhagen , Copenhagen Business School , and IT-Universitetet i København . Over the next six months, these talented students will be mentored by five of our experienced team members at Halfspace - an AI company who will guide them through their career journeys and offer valuable insights to help them navigate their professional paths. In addition to one-on-one mentorship, the students will participate in a series of sessions designed to sharpen both their technical and non-technical skills. Kicking things off, our Senior Data Scientist, Katrine Arendt Rasmussen gave an insightful presentation on how we apply AI in the real world. Sharing key principles, best practices, and an overview of the tools we work with and what an AI project could look like. WELCOMING ANTON TO OUR ADVANCED ANALYTICS & AI TEAM! We’re excited to announce further expansion of Team Halfspace - an AI company , by welcoming Anton Gersvang Golles as a Data Scientist. Anton brings a wealth of experience in computational physics, numerical optimization, statistics, and machine learning. He recently completed his Master's degree in Computational Physics at the University of Copenhagen (Københavns Universitet) , receiving top marks for his thesis on building a text-to-motion transformer diffusion model for humanoid character animation. His previous roles include developing insights tools at WALLHACK, and contributing to research in magnetic flux tracking at Rokoko. Anton's ability to translate complex data into actionable insights and his enthusiasm for applying theoretical knowledge to practical challenges make him a perfect fit for our team. Beyond his technical expertise, Anton is passionate about teaching programming. He has taught courses and mentored over 50 private students, sharing his knowledge and inspiring the next generation of coders. He's also actively involved with Coding Pirates , where he teaches introductory firmware development to kids aged 7-14. Additionally, Anton has built an online platform for studying computational physics, fostering an interactive learning community. Line will be joining our Strategy & Execution team as a Senior Engagement Manager, helping guide our clients to steer direction and drive impact through AI. Initially kicking off her career at McKinsey & Company while studying at Copenhagen Business School (CBS), Line moved on to PFA within Public Affairs. During the past 6 years, Line has been driving digital transformations for global companies; firstly in her role at EY and most recently at NORTH CONSULTING where she took on the position as Manager, Commercial Excellence and Digital Transformation. Line holds a B.Sc . in International Business & Politics and a M.Sc . in International Marketing & Management from CBS. During her studies she spent two semesters abroad at the University of Richmond and Columbia University respectively, specialising in behavioral economics and decision-making.
