Trey Sutten joined Tommy Barletta on the Jones Point Navigator Series Podcast to discuss how Siftwell leverages #AI and #PrescriptiveAnalytics to drive member outcomes, the crucial role of community health plans, and the need for inclusive AI regulation.

Trey shared tangible examples of how we help community plans close the loop from predictions to identifying the "who," understanding the "why," and determining "what to do about it" using various types of AI. Here's how it works:

→ Level 1️⃣: Claims data
→ Level 2️⃣: Call center data, customer satisfaction, health risk assessments, living situations, provider distances, etc.
→ Level 3️⃣: External data sets we’ve built and collected, like transport access, social connectedness, employment, dependents, etc.

For instance, a client asked, "How can we increase breast cancer screening participation?" Our machine learning identified 250 women from a list of 12,000 with an 80% chance of non-compliance due to distance, lack of transportation, childcare needs, and unawareness of coverage. We use psychographic modeling to assess if a call campaign would be effective for these 250 members.

Causal inference and explainable AI enable us to pinpoint the most critical factors for individuals based on their environment and needs. This approach is vital for addressing urgent issues and enhancing high-quality care and outcomes.

As AI continues to revolutionize the healthcare ecosystem in various ways like personalized care paths, member engagement, and administrative automation, etc, every stakeholder—whether a plan, provider, or patient—has likely felt this shift and will continue to experience its significant impact over the next few months.
 
The most successful AI models in healthcare will be those that allow health plans and providers to integrate human touches while automating time-consuming tasks.  This approach enables professionals to focus on what matters most: member care. 
 
So the question is, how can you make AI work for your organization to enable better care? Is it creating small, targeted lists for member outreach? Is it helping create effective campaigns? Is it optimizing your team resources? Is it helping your team free their time to do the things they love and do best -- interacting with members and interpersonal connections?
