I'm super excited about the release of our new feature in Type.ai : Reviews! One challenge when using LLMs in their raw form is that the input-output workflow makes it cumbersome to make granular changes. There are two parts to the problem: first, identifying what changes have been made, and second, selecting which specific changes to incorporate. Also, this is not a one-shot process, and you'll probably want to make multiple passes until you arrive at your desired end result. Our new Reviews feature directly addresses these pain points. It enables full document transformations while giving you both a clear view of all changes and complete control over which ones to accept. It's very powerful and can be used for a wide range of tasks, both table-stakes stuff such as grammar checking and more complex things like translating or document restructuring. If you're doing any form of writing I highly recommend you give it a go.

New video: AI prompting advice for writers. Ever since the first GPT-3 model came out, I've been confused about something: Why are state-of-the-art language models so mediocre at writing? It seems like a "language" model should be great at writing, a famously 100% language-based skill (lol). But the more I've studied how LLMs work and deepened my appreciation for writing, a partial answer has emerged: LLMs are trained to say what's most *likely*, but good writing is often original and even surprising. Once this clicked, I started to work with AI differently. I try to get it to behave a bit outside the norm. This is pretty easy to do; it just requires a slightly different approach to prompting. In this video, I share the techniques I find myself coming back to most often. They're simple, and probably even obvious, but I hope they help any fellow writers whose AI sessions end with an intense desire to hurl their laptop across the room. These prompting techniques work in general-purpose tools like ChatGPT and writing-focused products like Type.ai . And btw - there's nothing fundamentally at odds between what's likely and what's interesting or useful. I've just noticed that in writing, it's useful to assume tension between the two. (and GPT-5, if you're reading this, I'm just kidding and think you're great at everything!) Enjoy!

Stefan Li is one of the most talented engineers out there. We have had many deep conversations about engineering, and thanks to Software Engineering Daily we managed to capture one of those 'on tape', so to speak. Aside from the chats about some of the fun front-end technologies such as service workers and the web locks api, Stefan also talks about their choice of models (GPT and Claude) and what their platform layers on top to produce an incredible LLM-assisted writing experience.
