Essence x Berkeley Haas x RVU

The Essence App data science internship led by University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business MBA/MPH candidate Satvik R. has just wrapped up its first semester! We would like to recognize the terrific work by our interns: Prajna Anand, Reethu Thota, and Dyuthi Ramesh.

Over the course of the internship, the data science team:

- Gathered and summarized vast amounts of scientific research related to menstrual cycles and hormonal/energy fluctuations
- Created a conclusion matrix to highlight scientific findings
- Produced science-based detailed daily insights (organized by phase) for Essence users
- Created a LLM algorithm that will be incorporated into the app to predict the category of an inputted user task, so the app can optimize the scheduling of the task for the user (very cool!!)
- Quantified user energy levels by sorting through research to find the optimal energy metrics for ease and robustness to incorporate into the app

We are super happy that this semester was a success, and we are grateful for Satvik's leadership and the energy and coordination by RV University Director of International Collaborations Balu Masti, RVU Dean Dr. Sanjay Chitnis, and RVU professor Shobana Padmanabhan.

Why does gender balance matter? It's not just about fairness; it's a catalyst for innovation. It’s good for business!

At Web Summit yesterday Essence CEO Elina Vale spoke at a talk called “Not our problem? How men should treat women in IT” along with other esteemed panelists. The talk explored the vital role men play in fostering equity.

Elina highlighted the importance of tailored products for women and urged a shift in gender roles. There’s a critical need right now for women in product development. Tailoring products to women’s needs not only ensures inclusivity but also unlocks a broader audience, enriching the marketplace.
