Members of the AVL Project team attended the play 'The Slip' on 7 November, with the story of the Bingham Canyon Mine pit slip brought to life on stage to explore work health and safety fundamentals including safety culture, psychosocial and physical hazards. 'Australian Vanadium Limited Moves Forward with Project Lumina to Pioneer Long-Duration Vanadium Flow Battery Technology' - Vanitec - Vanadium reports on Project Lumina. 'Project Lumina will produce a 100 MW VFB BESS with four-hour and eight-hour configurations, targeting a competitive levelized cost of storage (LCOS) of AUD 274 (USD 180.5)/MWh for the four-hour model and AUD 251/MWh for the eight-hour model. This design will leverage AVL’s vanadium oxide resources, enabling them to be converted into vanadium electrolyte for use in these BESS systems. Realising AVL’s Utility-Scale Vanadium Flow Battery Strategy Analysis completed by VSUN Energy indicates the merits of a 4-hour 100MW VFB battery energy storage system (BESS) with a levelised cost of storage (LCOS) of A$274/MWh (± 30%). Such an LCOS for a VFB BESS would be competitive with the LCOS of similar lithium-ion BESS products currently in the market.
