A recent chrome plating replacement job for a hydraulic piston through Avweld Australasia . Chrome plating has been around for decades but its environmental concerns have recently made many companies look to move away from electro plating and into more sustainable practices such as laser cladding and high velocity oxygen fuel (HVOF). The attached images are using our Alloys International Australasia AI-2675 Chromium Carbide HVOF powder and ground and super finished to a 0.1 Ra surface finish as per customer request. This job is just the beginning of our capacity and it 3.2m overall length and 150mm diameter is a perfect size! We can comfortably complete jobs like this up to 6m and 1000mm diameter for super finishing ( <0.05 Ra) and 12m long and 1600mm for a fine ground finish (0.2 - 0.4 Ra). Avweld are now able to apply laser clad tungsten carbide hardfacing to steel mill rollers, which for many applications are applied smooth enough, that no post-grinding is required. This means more coating for less cost.
